On a phone/tablet, the software-based keyboard is just another app, and can be replaced. There are a variety of keyboards (I can think of 4 for my Android phone). Most of them have a “swipe” feature. This means instead of tapping each individual letter/symbol/number, you put your finger on the first letter and drag your finger through the rest of the word (a temporary “trail” shows up to show the path of your finger). Combined with autocorrect it’s usually pretty smart. Some people find it faster than tapping the keyboard with a finger, or with two fingers (or thumbs on some phones/tablets). Some find it slower. Steve finds it slower. I find it depends on the phone, and I’m considering turning it off, myself.
